In this article it shown how to make a DIY(Do It Yourself) adjustable voltage lead acid battery charger. You may have lead acid battery of different voltages lying in your home and you want charge those batteries. These different voltage lead acid battery requires different voltage charger. So here adjustable AC-DC voltage adaptor is used with some few passive component to build the charger.
The parts required are:
- Adjustable AC-DC Voltage Adaptor
- 330Ohm Resistor
- LED
- 1N4007 Diode
- Aligator clips
- Some wires
The following picture shows the build Adjustable Voltage Lead Acid Battery Charger.
The charger circuit is very simple and is shown below.
The charger can be build just by simple soldering of the diode, resistor and LED to the positive and negative wires of the AC-DC adaptor. The other end of the 1N4007 diode is the positive terminal which is connected to the positive terminal of the Lead acid battery using electrical connecting clips. Similarly the end of the LED is the negative which is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. The LED indicates that current is flowing in the circuit and the battery is being charged.
The AC-DC adaptor has range of output voltage such as 3V, 4.5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V and 12V. To charge 4V,1Ah Lead acid battery we can set the output voltage on the Adaptor to like 4.5V or 6V. To charge 6V, 4.5Ah lead acid battery we can set the Adaptor output voltage to 6V or 7.5V. Thus we can charge different voltages lead acid battery. The following shows lead acid battery of 6V and 4V which were charged using this charging circuit.
The following video demonstrates how the Adjustable Voltage Lead Acid Battery Charger works.
